A shout-out to my mom and sisters

So I just hung up with Mindy for the second time today and it got me thinking about how awesome my sisters and my mom are and how lucky I am to have them. You see, I already talked to Mindy this morning but then I switched over to the other line to talk to Nicki and before I could switch back to Mindy my mom called on my cell phone and so then I went and talked to her. Before I could get back to Nicki, Kim was calling, oh wait, not really...she actually has a job and has to be at work unlike the rest of us. But if it had been a week ago that would have been the case. In fact I am going through withdrawls because this entire summer I have talked to Kim on the phone approximately 4 times a day for at least 2 hours each, totaling 8 hours or 90% of my day. Anyway, after giving each and everyone one of them a second by second play (as Grant would say) I told them every move the kids and I had made this morning in the hour since we got up. Then I listened to them do the same. And so my typical morning goes. Then after lunch the same thing happens again and then again sometime between dinner and bed. O.K. so I might be exaggerating a little but I know all of our husbands would say I'm not.
Anyway, it got me thinking, what would I do without them? Grant certainly doesn't care about what I am doing every minute of the day or about every little stupid thought, opinion, problem or interst that I have...so I gotta tell someone. Thanks girls, you are the best friends ever and I love you so much!

Do we eat out too much?

So Grant and I have always eaten out more than we should. It's probably been that way ever since we got married 6 1/2 years ago. I think it all started when we lived with his parents and we never wanted to eat what they were having. Also, I hated to cook then and I still hate to cook now. It never seemed to be a big deal because we didn't give it a whole lot of thought. But now that we have a children, and one who can talk, we are reminded that we eat out a little too often nearly every time we go out.

The first reality check was shortly after Collin turned two and began saying short sentences. We are at dinner and have just began eating our food. The waitress comes to make sure that we are okay and asks the typical "do you need anything else"? Collin looks at her and says, "yeah, I need a box". I thought the waitress would fall over but she brings him a box and he proceeds to fill it with his chicken fingers, fries, and the little ceramic cup of ranch (I know there is a name for those things but I can't think of what it is right now). So Grant and I realize that we are eating out a little too much and vow from then on to do better. Well of course that doesn't last more than a meal.

So next time we are at dinner the waitress brings Collin his usual drink of choice, apple juice. I say to Collin, "now what do you say", of course encouraging him to say thank you. He looks right at our waiter and says, "I need a straw". Grant and I were dumbfounded and swore we would stay home from now on.

Our next eventful evening we are at the Olive Garden. Collin has been talking about how he "just wants breadsticks" the whole way there. When the waitress comes to take our order Collin orders breadsticks for himself before Grant or I can say anything. Then when our waiter brings our check and politely asks if we need anything else, Collin again speaks before either of us can and says, "where's our mints?" By this time Grant and I realize that people are going to think our 2 year old has no manners so we vow to quit eating out altogether.

Well the other night Mindy and Micheal wanted to go to Red Lobseter before the guys went to see The Dark Knight. Before we leave Mindy's house Collin tells me, "mom at Red Lobster I just want bread and apple sauce". Mindy looks at me surprised that he already knows what they have and what he wants. We get there and are waiting outside to be seated and Collin says, "I want to go see the crabs", again I realized he is just a little too familiar with this place. Even though they are really lobsters they are crustaceans just the same and he's two. We get seated and our waitress comes to our table to get our drink order. Mindy asks Collin if he wants apple juice. He then proceeds to inform her, "they don't have apple juice". She looks at me for reinforcement and I nod my head in embarrasment. The waitress then agrees that he is right. On the way home I tell Grant, we are seriously never eating out again. No he says, we just aren't talking Collin with us.

So to top things off, Grant and I are sitting on the couch tonight both eating a bowl of ice cream when Collin comes over to us with some monster truck toy, holds it over my bowl and starts twisting one of the tires. I ask him what he is doing and his reply is "want some cheese mom?" Grant looks at me to see if I understood what he was doing which of course I did and then we both start laughing.

I found, I like, I do...

I am: enjoying the peace and quiet for one minute while both of my little darlings are asleep.
I think: that life is great and mine could not get much better than it is.
I know: that I am a very boring person and that this post will not be nearly as funny as Mindy's.
I want: Grant to get home from work so that we can hang out and spend the evening together most likely laughing at Collin.
I wish: I read my scriptures more than I do.
I miss: Grant, my sisters, mom, nieces and nephews.
I fear: mice, not being a good mom and wife.
I feel: relieved that my washing machine is finally fixed.
I hear: only my keyboard.
I smell: my kids after they have had a bath.
I crave: anything with sugar.
I usually: want to go out to dinner so that I don't have to cook.
I always: worry about what other people think of me.
I search: the Internet for random crap when I am bored.
I wonder: if my kitchen will ever be finished.
I care: about my family more than anything.
I worry: about my kids and Grant constantly.
I remember: when life was much simpler yet much less rewarding.
I believe: that you are never given more than you can handle.
I dance: in the car when Collin and I are singing.
I don’t always: do what I know I should.
I argue: over really stupid things that will not even matter in 5 minutes.
I write: in my journal occasionally but not enough.
I win: rarely.
I lose: my patients very quickly.
I never: get everything done that I want to in a day.
I listen: to Collin ask about 8 million questions a day and love it.
I don't understand: how people can not want kids.
I am scared: of my kids rebelling when they get older.
I need: to go fix dinner.
I forget: things too fast.
I tag: Kim and Nicki

Blessing Day

Yesterday we blessed Macie . Lots of our family and friends came to share her special day with us. It turned out to be a really great day with lots of yummy food and fun. Thanks everyone for coming to see Macie.
Our little family (minus Collin), he was having
way too much fun with his cousins to come be in the picture.
I thought Macie's little feet looked so cute I had to take a picture.

So tired!

She looked so cute in her dress!
